Amedeo Carboni, Inter transfer assistant and very close friend of Benitez, exposed on Inter Channel an old story, about one of the saddest moment in Inter history: the defeat of May 5th at Rome, against Lazio, a match that cost Hector Cuper his first scudetto. This story is linked with Argentinean coach: “I would have been an Inter player in 2001/2002 season. I had a very close relationship with Cuper. But, at that time, we didn’t find any deal and after Rome’s defeat, Cuper called me and give me the blame and told me: ‘It was you to cost me the scudetto. I had left back that I have never wanted’.

At that time Carboni was a Valencia CF player, but was 36 years old. So Inter decided to put its trust on younger player, that would have been guaranteed much more season in the future instead of the former AS Roma left back. Carboni retired in 2006, at the age of 41.
